batik workshop
I invite participants to explore a different art form, one that has existed in the east for centuries — drawing with wax on fabric. In ancient times, Javaness princesses and ladies-at-court used batik as a form of meditation. For our class, I recycle wax from candles that had been used in prayer and meditation, not only to be more mindful of the environment but also to create that spiritual awareness, regardless of where we are on our personal journey but knowing that we are at a spiritually enriching place here at Queenswood.
Teacher (Nita Ng): I am a yoga teacher, batik artist and writer. I love sharing what I do with others through classes, workshops, retreats, as well as through her paintings and writings. I am originally from Malaysia but would travel anywhere where I am needed.
Here at Queenswood, I lead Body Prayer, Laughter Yoga, Aqua Exercises, Aqua Yoga and Asian Art classes using batik, Chinese brush painting and Chinese calligraphy.
“Through yoga I found stillness. From there, I began to hear my inner voice, which I also attribute as God’s voice. My paintings and this book is a result of the promptings from within.”
